A resource for all children with dyspraxia in the Vale of Glamorgan

Vale Dyspraxia Support Group

The Vale Dyspraxia Support Group is an informal group of parents and others who can offer other parents support in coping with dyspraxia. The group meets on the first Monday in each month (except August) at 7.30 p.m. in the Civic Offices, Holton Road, Barry,CF63 4RU. Anyone with an interest or concerns is welcome to turn up; young people are very welcome.

We invite speakers to our meetings and hold social activities for the young people (cinema visits, ten-pin bowling, BBQs etc.)

We also operate a 24 hr helpline on 01446 738945 or the group can be contacted by Email at valedyspraxia@aol.com.

Exchanging experiences can be very helpful and the group can help with issues such as how to liaise with schools and the LEA to maximise the help that should be provided.  The Group can give advice on what therapies and coping strategies seem to offer help and progress. The group has links with the Vale Education Authority, the Dyscovery Centre, SNAP, and local politicians, all of whom may be able to assist in helping your child to learn to live with dyspraxia.

The young poeple have made a number of presentations on the problems they face to LEA officers, Governors, Welsh Assembly Ministers. The presentation has been made into a DVD in both Welsh and English for wider distribution to schools and other organisations.

Simon Woodward, leader of the Youth Section, has given a number of interviews to the media, follow this link for an interview he did for BBC On-line http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7639875.stm
